For example, Uponor PE-Xa can be installed for an Olympic ice rink within 7 days. Uponor PE-Xa is also used extensively in “Cold enclosures” and offers many advantages over conventional materials. The pipe is not prone to bursting even if the water within freezes.
Uponor PE-Xa needs no cleaning or painting, is installed without welding which removes fire risk and is also therefore ideally suited to buildings that are retro fitted. The pipe allows easy distribution through areas where a rigid pipe would be impossible to fit.
Uponor-EvalPex pipes have an oxygen diffusion barrier, preventing oxygen ingress through the pipe, which otherwise may cause corrosion of metallic components in the system. Uponor PEX-a is not affected by most additives typically used in chilled water systems, such as alcohol, glycol or brines. The issue of SRB’s and other organisms that are found in chilled water systems pose no threat to PEX unlike metallic piping. In systems where water treatment is lacking, PEX pipes do not corrode which reduces the risk of leaks. Pex-a is not effected if there is no maintenance carried out in the chilled water system as it does not rust or corrode and is not prone to bacteriological attack.

Pex-a is the ideal solution when large areas require cooling without mechanical fans. Pex-a piping can be coiled within a concrete ceiling and by controlling the waterflow linked to a humidistat offers excellent stratification cooling with no added mechanical noise and air movement. By designing an area with Pex-a in the ceiling using chilled water and Pex-a - in the floor using warm water offers unprecedented comfort levels. Couple this piping to a heat pump chiller which produces both hot water for heating in winter and cold water for the cooling slab in the summer and once piece of equipment covers both functions. See:
