Uponor PE-Xa pipe's characteristics differ from metal pipes in terms of flexibility, capacity for concealed installation and low pressure drop. It can be installed directly into the chase and requires no additional wrapping as required in metal applications. See: General: Economical Water Flow Using either conventional or manifold system, Uponor PE-Xa can also be supplied and installed inside a conduit within the concrete structure, thereby reducing pipe length required. The conduit allows the pipe to be removed and replaced in the event of accidentally damaging the water pipe due to drilling.

Thanks to the pipe’s flexibility, pressure surges are reduced to a third of the strength of those in metal pipes, reducing water hammer. An important property of the pipe is a low pressure drop, which tolerates a high velocity. Risers can be “pulled up” access shafts with no jointing required, reducing installation time and removing challenges of jointing in impossible to reach areas. Pipe can be supplied in pre-insulated coils with an additional conduit. These are supplied in pre-insulated conduited coils of diameters 110mm in lengths of 200 meters.

Pipes can also be supplied in a conduit which allows installation in a concrete floor structure, a solution which is impossible with a rigid or multilayer pipe. Uponor PE-Xa can be removed and replaced at a later date by pulling the pipe out of the in-site conduit and replacing it.

The advantage of PEX having “no theft value” cannot be overstated on a commercial building site. The PEX pipe can be stored, transported, installed and left onsite with a very low risk of theft. This not only reduces material loss but also means not having to redo a job to replace stolen pipes. Using PPSU fittings once again adds to the number of applications that the Q&E system is suitable for and the fact the fitting is also non-metallic removes any contamination risk. PPSU is not susceptible theft that all copper and brass systems face on building sites within Southern Africa as it is non-metallic.

There are many special applications fro Pex within the Pluming environment. Dishwashers and washing machines use Pex lines to connect them which allows the customer to leave the unit connected without having to turn the unit off after use. The flexibility of Pex allows us to endform the pipe for these applications.
